2015 PEUGEOT 208

  • Significant enhancements to PEUGEOT’s best-selling car, that goes on sale in June
  • Features Euro 6 engines, revised styling, valued enhancements and extra safety systems
  • Personalisation packs are available for a more exclusive look
  • ‘GT Line’ and ‘GTi by PEUGEOT Sport’ models will increase desirability of enhanced 208 range

Three years after its launch, the PEUGEOT 208 – the brand’s best-selling model – benefits from a substantial upgrade to enhance and boost its appeal over the competition.

Though already an advanced and innovative design, the new 208 has been finessed in many key areas; with more assertive new styling, fresh exterior colour choices and an exciting range of personalisation options. New equipment makes driving in urban areas even easier, with safety, assistance and lifestyle systems like Active City Brake, MirrorScreen and reversing camera now available.

New PureTech and BlueHDi engines meet the latest Euro 6 emissions standards, with the world’s most economical internal combustion engine offering record low CO2 at only 79g/km. The 208 range is also expanded with the ‘GT Line’ and ‘GTi by PEUGEOT Sport’ models.

The new PEUGEOT 208 will be unveiled on Tuesday, 3rd March at the Geneva Motor Show, with first deliveries due in the UK from June.

Smart new styling underlines PEUGEOT’s move upmarket

The most obvious upgrade is to the 208’s styling, which is more assertive and distinctive. The new front bumper creates a sharper and more precise line, with a wider grille and deeper chrome finisher that is now fully integrated. The striking new look is supported by new two-tone headlamps, with black and chrome masks and a hi-tech LED light signature. These new headlamps are fitted as standard from Active trim level. When combined with separate front fog lamps, this fresh face creates a new identity which subtly transforms the vehicle, making it more dynamic and more aesthetic on the road.

At the rear, the full LED light clusters have been redesigned to incorporate Peugeot’s 3D ‘claws’ motif. In profile, the sculpted sides and chrome window surrounds of the 208 are retained. Enhancements include exclusive new 16 and 17-inch wheel options, available across the range. Illustrating Peugeot’s move upmarket, they are available in a choice of painted, diamante or with innovative sequential diamante or laser engraved finishes. Chrome door mirror shells are now standard from the Allure trim upwards, strengthening the chic and desirable nature of the best-selling (most popular) 208.

Interior enhancements to boost comfort and appeal

When the PEUGEOT 208 was launched in 2012 it was the first opportunity for customers to experience Peugeot’s new ‘i-Cockpit’ cabin concept, which has since been adopted by the 2008 and new 308. Consisting of a compact steering wheel, head-up instrumentation panel and large touch-screen, it has been especially embraced by customers, who value its unique features and virtues.

Enhancements have been made to improve comfort and desirability of the 208 interior. The wheel is now trimmed in full-grain leather from Active trim, while the soft-touch moulded dashboard strip – which is standard regardless of trim level – has new graining on higher specification models.

Connectivity: better than ever

The 208’s seven-inch touch screen remains standard from Active trim level, and provides intuitive and easy access to all systems including audio, navigation, telephone, vehicle information and internet. On-board connectivity using Bluetooth, USB and mobile applications via PEUGEOT Connect Apps has been upgraded to take account of the latest software improvements. Brand new to 208 is MirrorScreen, which makes it possible to transfer the screen of a smartphone to the vehicle’s display, to make full use of its applications.

Access to apps depends on whether the vehicle is moving or stationary. While moving the driver can use apps created for driving such as navigation or infotainment. Compatible apps developed to date include iCoyote, Parkopedia, Glympse, and Sygic.

New technology: safety and convenience for owners

The PEUGEOT 208 was one of the first vehicles in the segment to make touch-screen technology and connectivity widely available. Its seven-inch screen is fitted to more than 80 per cent of versions sold since launch. It is also one of the rare hatchbacks in the segment to offer the option of Park Assist, an active system allowing the vehicle to park in and leave a parallel parking space automatically.

The revised PEUGEOT 208 maintains this lead by offering two new systems associated with urban use of the vehicle – Active City Brake and a reversing camera.

Active City Brake makes it possible to avoid an accident or reduce its seriousness if the driver fails to react. It works in urban conditions at less than 20mph. A short range sensor is fitted at the top of the windscreen and can detect other vehicles driving in the same direction or stationary.

The reversing camera, available as an option from Active trim level, uses the large colour screen to help orchestrate parking manoeuvres. This driving aid displays the outline of the vehicle and its trajectory by means of coloured lines, making manoeuvres safe, easy and intuitive.

New colours and personalisation packs enhance desirability

Personalisation is a now a deciding factor in many small car purchases and PEUGEOT is embracing this with the revised 208. Available for the first time are exterior personalisation packs – such as Menthol White – which is a factory-fit option from Active trim level. Each pack comprises an Equalizer grille with stamped 3D-effect, gloss black grille finisher, gloss black front fog lamp finishers with laser engraved coloured line, coloured PEUGEOT lettering front and rear, Perla Nera black door mirror shells and coloured side repeaters.

The range of colours and paint finishes available on the PEUGEOT 208 has expanded with new colours. With a rich and varied palette of 13 colours, it meets a growing demand from customers looking for differentiation and exclusivity. Sure to grab headlines is the striking new metallic Orange Power, which is dynamic, young and fresh.

New ultra-efficient engines with CO2 emissions from a record-breaking 79g/km

The revised engine line-up means all versions of the PEUGEOT 208 meet stringent Euro 6 emissions standards. BlueHDi technology is the most effective diesel emissions control system on the market and every version of the new 208 is below 95g/km of CO2. With the exception of the 75hp in entry level trim, all are equipped with Stop & Start (S&S) technology.

The 1.6-litre BlueHDi engines are now available with three power levels choices. The first two are the 75 and 100 S&S, which are coupled with a five-speed manual gearbox and capable of impressive economy at 94.1mpg – a record for the segment, and in the market. The third is the 120 S&S which is mated to a six-speed manual gearbox, which produces just 94g/km of CO2.

Following the launch of the naturally aspirated 1.0-litre PureTech 68hp and 1.2-litre PureTech 82hp engines, the PureTech family of three-cylinder petrol engines is expanded with the 1.2-litre turbocharged PureTech 110hp S&S version. Coupled with a five-speed manual gearbox, this engine achieves CO2 emissions of just 103g/km.

Modular and compact, clean and high-performance, this engine is a tour-de-force of efficiency and the latest technology. With a high pressure (200 bar) direct (cylinder) injection system, a new-generation high-efficiency turbocharger (operating at speeds of 240,000rpm), it offers driveability of the highest order in the market, and this from a very low engine speed.

The new PEUGEOT 208 is available from launch with the new EAT6 six-speed automatic gearbox, which uses Quickshift technology allowing for faster changes. With official CO2 emissions of 104g/km, the 1.2-litre PureTech 110hp S&S EAT6 will be the reference in terms of a petrol automatic transmission in its segment.

PEUGEOT 208 GT Line: a striking new trim level of choice

The revised PEUGEOT 208 continues its move up-market with the arrival of a new trim level specification – GT Line. Following the lead of the larger 308, it adopts many of the styling attributes of the iconic GTi model.

Available in three and five-door versions, 208 GT Line is available with a choice of three engines – the 1.2-litre PureTech 110hp S&S petrol or the 1.6-litre BlueHDi diesel in either 100hp or 120hp outputs. The GT Line finish is derived from the Allure trim and features an ‘Equalizer grille’ with red 3D markings, a gloss black grille and front fog lamp finishers, with 17-inch Caesium diamante alloy wheels, Perla Nera black door mirror shells, chrome window surrounds and a chrome exhaust finisher. It has GT Line badges on the grille, front wings and tailgate, plus red PEUGEOT lettering front and rear.

The cabin boasts attractive black and red sports seats with red stitching, which is repeated on the door panels and gear lever gaiter/grip. Gloss black door handles with red line at the front, leather sports steering wheel with a flat base section, red stitching and a satin chrome insert, complement black seat belts with distinctive red line, aluminium PEUGEOT door sill finishers and aluminium pedal trims.

208 GTi by PEUGEOT Sport: a worthy performance flagship

Following the success of the 208 GTi 30th, the most exclusive and radical GTi is now included as an integral part of the range. Uniquely badged as the 208 ‘GTi by PEUGEOT Sport’ it features a lowered ride height, wider tracks, 18-inch wheels, matt black exterior features, sports ‘bucket’ front seats, red floor mats and two-tone paintwork. High performance components include Brembo front brakes, Torsen differential, tuned suspension and steering settings with Michelin Pilot Super Sport tyres.

THE NEW PEUGEOT 208: THE 208, BUT EVEN BETTER

Exactly three years after it was launched in Geneva, the new 208, which goes on sale from June 2015, is showcasing new ambitions via its updated exterior and interior style and, above all, with greater choice of a full line up of Euro 6 engines and unprecedented features.

A more energetic design

The exterior style becomes sleeker thanks to:

  • a larger grille and a chrome trim built in to the bumper;
  • new black and chrome two-tone lights with a new LED light signature;
  • new painted, diamond-effect or laser-engraved wheels;
  • new LED ‘claw effect’ rear lights.

The interior features the PEUGEOT i-Cockpit, combining its compact steering wheel, heads-up positioned instrument panel and its large 7″ touchscreen, has been further updated. Among the major changes is the inclusion of:

  • a soft-touch dashboard insert with a visual design;
  • white backlighting for the instrument panel and controls;
  • blue LED light guides for versions equipped with a panoramic roof;

A range which offers more choice

With an already extensive choice, the colour palette offered on the new PEUGEOT 208 has gained a new vibrant shade which will also features as its launch colour: Orange Power. And because no two customers are the same, exterior customisation packs from the grille to the door mirror covers will be available from level 2 models.

Already adopted on the PEUGEOT 308 and 508, the new 208 range can now be specified in the new GT Line finish. On three or five door models, with PureTech petrol or BlueHDi diesel engines, the 208 GT Line is influenced by the sporty looks of the GTi: for example, the exterior features larger 17 inch wheels, and black door mirror covers, and on the inside, with its sport seats and steering wheel, also features the GTi’s aluminium pedal unit, inviting a more dynamic experience.

The PEUGEOT 205 GTi, had its 30th year commemorated with the 208 GTi 30th anniversary edition and, to perpetuate this legacy, comes the 208 GTi by PEUGEOT Sport. It is now a featured premium model in the range; with Euro 6 controlled 208hp under the bonnet, Torsen® differential, large 330mm brake discs and a proven performance pedigree, it is asserting itself as the most radical expression of the 208 range.

New high-tech features

To reduce the risk and severity of collisions in urban environments, the PEUGEOT 208 uses the new Active City Brake feature which can be triggered below 20mph. A sensor on the top of the windscreen, this safety feature – particularly useful in the city – automatically applies the brakes, bringing the vehicle to a complete stop if deemed necessary to avoid a collision.

Another new feature is the rear view camera, available as an optional extra from level 2 to make reversing the car even easier.

New Euro 6 engines and EAT6 gearbox

The new 208 range is defined by its updated design and new features, and also the four new engines developed by the PSA and a new quick-changing EAT6 automatic gearbox.

On the BlueHDi diesel engine, key aspects include:

  • the appearance of three new engine power outputs: 1.6L BlueHDi 75hp, 100hp and 120hp;
  • all versions have CO2 emissions below 95g/km;
  • the 1.6L BlueHDi 75hp and 100hp can achieve 94mpg with CO2 emissions of just 79g/km, making the PEUGEOT 208 the world leader of internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles in terms of low CO2emissions.

The PureTech petrol range includes three engine power outputs:

  • two previously existing engines with the 1.0L PureTech 68 and 1.2L PureTech 82;
  • one new engine – the 1.2L PureTech 110 S&S with remarkably low emissions CO2 of 103g/km.

A major innovation for 2015 is the new EAT6 automatic gearbox that helps to improve the range’s operating efficiency:

  • Quickshift technology – smoother and quicker;
  • Only 1g/km increase in CO2 compared to the manual gearbox;
  • 104g/km of CO2 for the 1.2L PureTech 110 S&S EAT6 version – a reduction of -30% compared to the 1.6L VTi 120 automatic version.

ENGINE POWER: TECHNOLOGICAL EXCELLENCE FOR PERFORMANCE AND EFFICIENCY

Begun in 2014, the roll-out of Euro 6 engines continues in 2015 in petrol and diesel versions with 20 Best in class engines in their performance category. Some of the most impressive facts include:

  • The Peugeot carbon footprint is now less than 110g of CO2 per km;
  • Largely due to PEUGEOT’s performance in 2014, the PSA PEUGEOT CITROËN group has reclaimed its place as the European leader with an average of 110.3g/km of CO2 (CAFE);
  • Of the CAFE leaders, it is PEUGEOT which has made the most significant reductions in its emissions with a -4.6% reduction between 2013/2014 and -27% over the last 10 years.

PureTech petrol engine range

In 2014, due in particular to the arrival of PureTech engines which helped to improve the sales mix worldwide, 53% of the vehicles sold by PEUGEOT were petrol and 47% were diesel. The PureTech range, which is in the running for Engine of the Year, enjoys a complete and efficient offering:

  • Fully Euro 6 range from 95g/km of CO2;
  • 5 Best-in-class versions among the 208, 2008, 308 and 3008 ranges.

THP petrol engine range

Voted engine of the year 8 times running, the 1.6L THP 200 engine was joined in 2014 by the 1.6L THP 270, which reaches almost 170hp/l. The THP range demonstrates PEUGEOT’s technological expertise which continually improves performance while reducing emissions and consumption:

  • Fully Euro 6 range from 125g/km of CO2;
  • Three Best in Class versionswith the PEUGEOT 208 GTi (208hp), 308 GT (205hp) and RCZ R (270hp)

BlueHDi diesel engine range

BlueHDI is the family of combustion engines which provides the most efficient depollution technology currently on the market, thanks to the exclusive combination of SCR and additive-enhanced FAP:

  • Fully Euro 6 across the range
  • 12 Best in Class versions among the 208, 308, 3008, 2008, 508 and Partner ranges.

  • Peugeot 208 with BlueHDi Diesel engine sets a new long-distance fuel consumption record
  • This 79g/km model is the lowest CO2 non hybrid available
  • PSA Peugeot Citroёn was the leader in Europe in 2014 with average CO2 emissions of 110.3g/km

A 1.6-litre BlueHDi 100 S&S PEUGEOT 208 has set a new long-distance fuel consumption record, under the supervision of the UTAC. An impressive 1,337.19 miles (2,152 kilometres) were covered on 9.45 gallons (43 litres) of Diesel, with an average fuel consumption of an amazing 141.2 mpg (2.0 l/100km). This record confirms the technological excellence of the latest Euro6 BlueHDi Diesel engines and their contribution to the reduction of CO2 emissions.

This performance was achieved at the end of April on the PEUGEOT test circuit at Belchamp in France, supervised by the French Type Approval Authority, UTAC (Union Technique de l’Automobile, du motocycle et du Cycle). A strictly standard production PEUGEOT 208, with the 1.6-litre BlueHDi 100 S&S engine and 5-speed manual gearbox, ran for 38 hours and covered 2,152 kilometres while consuming little more than 9 gallons of fuel! In doing so, the new PEUGEOT 208 set an absolute long distance fuel consumption record for a standard production vehicle. Several drivers were used to arrive at this result, each taking a turn of 3 to 4 hours at the wheel during the scrutinised test.

The PEUGEOT 208 tested was a ‘Very Low Fuel Consumption’ version, available from the Dealer network as part of the extensive range. With an official Combined Drive Cycle fuel consumption figure of 94.2mpg (3.0 l/100km) and low CO2 emissions of 79g/km, it takes its place as the world benchmark for a standard production model powered by an internal combustion engine. This version is characterised by the presence of an aerodynamic rear spoiler and the adoption of ultra-low rolling resistance Michelin Energy Saver+ tyres. These values are already exceptional, but combined with the dynamic qualities of the new PEUGEOT 208 – compact, light, fun to drive – they offer the potential to go even further. Challenge taken up, challenge convincingly won!

Associating SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction) and an additive particle filter in a unique way, the BlueHDi technology demonstrates once again that it is the most efficient and effective Diesel emissions control system on the market.

On sale in Europe from June and Autumn in the UK, the new PEUGEOT 208 offers both exceptionally economical and efficient Euro6 petrol and Diesel engines. As regards CO2 emissions, the petrol range offers remarkably well-contained values from 97g/km while with Diesel, the BlueHDi range is now entirely below 95g/km.

PEUGEOT is rapidly reducing the CO2 emissions of all of its vehicles in a tangible way. The accelerated implementation of the 3-cylinder PureTech petrol and BlueHDi Diesel engines, as well as the new 1.6 litre THP engines and the EAT6 automatic transmission, now places 20 PEUGEOT vehicles at the best level in their power class for CO2 emissions (five PureTech, three 1.6-litre THP and twelve BlueHDi are class-leading models).

These engines meet the demand by the PEUGEOT brand for development that takes account of the environment, with in particular, engines that are ever cleaner and produce less CO2. PEUGEOT’s environmental performance helped the PSA PEUGEOT CITROËN Group maintain leadership in Europe in 2014 with average CO2 emissions of 110.3g/km, in a European market where the average is at 123.7g/km, and as an individual Brand the Peugeot product average is 109.5g/km.

The new PEUGEOT 208: the success story continues

Representing nearly 30 per cent of all registrations, the B-segment is the second largest in volume in the European market. Despite a multitude of different body styles, the compact hatchback remains very popular, accounting for two out of every three cars sold.

PEUGEOT continues to be a dominant player in this sector. Close to one million examples of the first generation 208 have been assembled at plants in Poissy (France) and Trnava (Slovakia). Together with the 2008 Urban Crossover, it made PEUGEOT one of the top three contenders in the segment across Europe in 2014.
