The wait is over. Today, MG Motor UK’s all-new SUV, the MG GS, was officially launched and the lid has been lifted on what a fantastic package this new vehicle is offering.

MG is proud to announce that, like the other models in the range, the MG GS is no exception to being affordable; with the line-up starting from only £14,995 and finishing at £19,495 for the manual transmission and £20,995 for the DCT (dual-clutch transmission).

The good news keeps coming, with the MG GS benefiting from a full five year factory warranty as standard; which shows the confidence the manufacturer has in the quality of this new model.

The MG GS holds its own against others in its sector in a number of areas, including CO2 output, torque, mass efficiency and towing weight. The MG GS has:

  • more torque than its two wheel drive gasoline competitors with 250Nm
  • more power than competitor two wheel drive gasoline variants, with 122kw available
  • a competitive CO2 value of 139g/km for the manual and 141g/km for the DCT
  • a competitive towing mass of 1750kg, making it suitable for towing a large family caravan
  • a competitive 0 – 60mph time of 9.6 seconds

The MG GS, which has been designed and engineered in Longbridge, Birmingham, has been developed to make it drive and handle like an MG should. The chassis has been tuned to deliver agility and great handling, making the driver feel confident when they take on the most challenging of roads.

The MG GS is available in three trim levels, with an option of manual or DCT on the top specification. Introducing the:

MG GS Explore:

This entry level model certainly isn’t short on specification. The price tag of £14,995 doesn’t mean the customer will lose out on life’s little luxuries, such as cruise control, automatic headlamps and air conditioning. This car is extremely affordable, whilst still being equipped to tackle everyday adventures.

MG GS Excite:

The ‘Excite’ should do just that, particularly when customers get even more toys for their money. As well as what the ‘Explore’ offers, this trim level has DAB radio, Bluetooth connectivity and rear parking sensors. All of that for £17,495? We said it would excite!

MG GS Exclusive:

Step up to the top of the range and the best of the specification. The ‘Exclusive’ is available with a choice of transmissions; 6-speed manual or MG’s first 7-speed DCT gearbox. Leather sports seats, that are electrically adjustable, and an iGO navigation system are great additions that allow the driver to relax and enjoy stress-free-driving. The manual is available at £19,495 and the DCT at £20,995.

Matthew Cheyne, Head of Sales and Marketing for MG, said: “This is a great day for us, as we can finally share the information so many people have wanted to know. The MG GS is competitive in many ways and we are confident it will do well in the SUV market.

“This car offers so much for comparatively little, making it the SUV to choose. The specification on these cars is phenomenal and when you add in the five year warranty it’s a no-brainer. There are some really great features as well, such as the adjustable rear seats that not only recline but fold completely flat making it adaptable for whatever the customer’s lifestyle.

“Customers choosing the MG GS will save money over more expensive SUVs. They will have all the specification they could want and still have money left to enjoy holidays or family days out.”

The MG GS will be on sale in MG dealerships across the country from Thursday 16 June.

TESTING THE LIMITS OF THE MG GS

Do you know what a new car goes through just to make sure it’s right for every eventuality? Rigorous testing, worldwide travel, freezing temperatures and strong winds are just some of them.

Next month, the new MG GS goes on sale in the UK. To mark such a momentous occasion, MG has been keen to share the stages of the SUV’s growth; from the design brief and early sketches through to what it’s gone through to ensure it performs at its best.

All new models are put through their paces, and the MG GS is no exception to this thorough testing. The GS has travelled over 750,000 miles as part of its testing and it has braved the 46°C heat of Australia’s Alice Springs and -30° chills of Arjeplog in Sweden. Testing in such extreme temperatures guarantee that wherever you take your GS for adventures, it will stand up to the challenge.

To make sure the GS is as streamlined and fuel efficient as possible, it was also put through more than 200 hours of wind tunnel testing to develop its highly-efficient aerodynamics.

Testing has also covered the ‘wet dog in car’ scenario. By placing wet cloths in the GS, tests were able to determine how quickly the car can demist when moisture is present inside. Carrying out tests like this allow engineers to fine tune systems to ensure the GS runs at its optimum performance.

Matthew Cheyne, Head of Sales and Marketing for MG, said: “When you look into what a new car endures prior to going on sale, it’s fascinating and demonstrates the effort that goes into ensuring the car is the best it can possibly be.

“With the imminent arrival of the GS, we’re excited to share facts and figures and nuggets of information people may have not been privy to before. By sharing these, we’re showing customers that when they step into the GS they know it can stand up to all challenges and adventures they put it through.”

The GS will also come with an agile 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine and will be available in three different trim levels.
