- Best-selling manufacturer in December
- Overall Vauxhall market share up to 11.14 per cent
- New Insignia and Zafira number one in respective segments
- British-built Vivaro van sales up by a huge 34 per cent
- Vauxhall is Police fleet market leader with 80 per cent share
Luton – Vauxhall rounded off its 110th anniversary year in style with year on year sales up by 12 per cent on 2012, according to figures released today by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders.
Finishing the year with a flourish, Vauxhall was also the UK’s best-selling car manufacturer in December with sales of 21,302 and a market share of 13.93 per cent. Overall performance in 2013 was also excellent with new model launches including ADAM, Mokka and the new Insignia range helping the company achieve total sales of 289,301 cars and vans.
Vauxhall also enjoyed a bigger share of the market, up to 11.14 per cent, meaning that the UK is now General Motors’ fourth largest market globally, as well as its largest in Europe.
Innovative programmes such as Vauxhall Flexible Finance and Lifetime Warranty helped drive a growth in retail sales to 9.6 per cent with New Insignia and Zafira topping their respective segments.
It was another huge year for Vauxhall Commercial Vehicles. Sales of the Luton-built Vivaro van, were up 34 per cent on last year to 18,180.
Griffin-badged Police cars are a common sight on British roads, so it’s no surprise that Vauxhall is the number one supplier to Police fleets with a substantial 80 per cent market share of competitive segments.
“With sales and market share up, it’s a great way for Vauxhall to celebrate its 110th year of building and selling vehicles in Britain,” said Duncan Aldred, Vauxhall’s Chairman and Managing Director.
“We’re also in the middle of a raft of new engine launches, which will continue for the next two years, making our products more refined, efficient and desirable for customers. One way or another, it’s clear that Vauxhall will be a force to be reckoned with in 2014.”
VAUXHALL INSIGNIA TRUE FLEET SALES FLOURISH
Luton– True fleet sales of Vauxhall’s class-leading Insignia were up over 50 per cent in the second half of 2013 over the first half of 2013.
Vauxhall launched its new Insignia in June, receiving universal plaudits from both customers and the press alike, thanks to its refreshed design, new powertrains including a sector-leading 2.0 CDTi diesel unit with emissions of just 98g/km and all-new advanced, infotainment system with internet connectivity.
True fleet sales are to company car drivers at end user companies and exclude other fleet segments such as rental and Motability.
“It is fantastic to see this growth,” said James Taylor, Vauxhall’s Fleet Sales Director.
“We took some very bold decisions when launching this car and how we’ve approached tackling the challenges of reducing whole life costs, SMR costs and National Insurance Contributions, plus minimising the benefit-in-kind taxation for company car drivers.
“It wasn’t easy to do, but it was the right strategy and I’m encouraged by the sales results we’ve achieved and the very positive feedback from our customers and the new business we have brought in.
“With the new whisper quiet 1.6-litre diesel now launched in Astra, and much-improved availability of Mokka, we expect another strong year for Vauxhall in true fleet.”
