  • Four new AMG GT models: GT and GT C Roadsters, GT C Coupe and range-topping GT R Coupe
  • New AMG E63 S Sedan and Wagon
  • Refreshed GLA compact SUV

Aug 1, 2017 — Atlanta — Following one of the most active vehicle-introduction years in its history, Mercedes-Benz continues the momentum in 2018, introducing additional new and revised models. The debut of the 2018 E-Class Cabriolet gives Mercedes-Benz three distinct four-seat convertible models in its line. The AMG GT family expands to include the new GT C Coupe and range-topping GT R Coupe, which join the visually and technically upgraded GT and GT S Coupe models. Also new for 2018 are two open-air variants: the AMG GT Roadster and GT C Roadster.

A significantly revised S-Class Sedan line debuts with new powertrains and the next level in Intelligent Drive driver assistance technologies. The current-generation S- Class has been the global best-selling sedan in the premium category since its introduction in 2013, with more than 300,000 sold.

New AMG GLC63 SUV and GLC63 / GLC63S variants expand the performance division’s model count to nearly 40. In addition, Mercedes-Benz now offers the most comprehensive luxury SUV model lineup in the U.S. market (seven).

The comprehensive 2018 Mercedes-Benz model line ranges from the smart electric drive coupe and cabriolet to the refreshed Mercedes-Maybach S-Class Sedan.

S-Class: New Models, and Next Phase of Intelligent Drive Technology

A quick glance at the 2018 Mercedes-Benz S-Class Sedan shows an elegant design update with new bumpers, “triple torch” design headlights and LED taillamps with a “stardust” effect. Changes beneath the surface go much deeper, however.

Three new powertrains debut in the S-Class Sedan line: new S450 and S450 4MATIC models are powered by a 362 hp 3.0L V6 biturbo engine. A 463 hp 4.0L V8 biturbo engine powers the S560 models, along with the Mercedes-Maybach S560 4MATIC. Cylinder deactivation helps this engine consume about 10 percent less fuel than the previous S550 variant’s 4.7L V8 biturbo engine while producing more power and the same 516 lb-ft of torque.

In the AMG S63, the handcrafted-AMG 4.0L V8 biturbo engine with cylinder deactivation produces 603 hp, 26 hp more than its previous 5.5L V8 biturbo engine. The AMG SPEEDSHIFT® MCT 9-speed transmission replaces the previous 7-speed unit, and new 4MATIC+ features fully-variable torque distribution. The RACE START function helps enable a 0-60 mph time of just 3.4 seconds. For the first time in an S-Class, both the S63 and S65 feature AMG DYNAMIC SELECT with four modes. Also, both AMG S-Class models receive the new AMG Track Pace App integrated into the head unit.

MAGIC BODY CONTROL® suspension with the CURVE tilting function, formerly available only on the S-Class Coupes, is now available for the S-Class Sedans (standard on AMG S65). The CURVE system leans the body into turns by up to 2.65 degrees, enhancing passenger comfort by reducing the centrifugal forces they feel. Road Surface Scan (forward-looking detection of bumps) and LED Intelligent Light System with Ultra Wide Beam are other unique technologies in the segment.

Cabin upgrades are abound in these premium luxury sedans for 2018. A new generation of dual 12.3″ high-resolution displays with a single bonded glass panel form the wide-screen digital cockpit. The driver can also choose from three different display styles (Classic, Sport and Progressive). Two new wood trim and three new upholstery selections become available, with standard Nappa Leather on all V8 models. A new steering wheel integrates Touch Control Buttons that work with a swiping action, as on a smartphone.

A new COMAND head unit generation expands phone capability, and inductive wireless charging works with Qi-compatible devices. The new ENERGIZING Comfort feature is a world-first that links various comfort systems, including climate control, ambient lighting, massage and fragrancing functions. The driver can configure a combination of settings as a specific “wellness setup” and store favorites.

Intelligent Drive: Evolution in driver assistance systems

The S-Class elevates Mercedes-Benz Intelligent Drive with enhanced camera and radar systems. Lane Tracking package is standard, and both Active Lane Change Assist and Active Emergency Stop Assist have been enhanced. In addition, for the first time, the system makes use of map and navigation data to calculate driving behavior.

Active Distance Assist DISTRONIC and Active Steering Assist now provide even more support for the driver to keep a safe distance and steer. The speed is now adjusted automatically ahead of curves or intersections.

The new Driver Assistance Package includes:

  • Active Distance Assist DISTRONIC uses substantially more map and navigation data, can support the driver based on the route, and Active Speed Limit Assist is able to adjust the vehicle’s speed.
  • Active Steering Assist provides even more support for the driver, generating steering torque to help the driver stay in the center of the lane on roads and bends
  • Active Lane Change Assist can now initiate a lane change with a tap of the indicator stalk. This lane change is executed within the next ten seconds and indicated in the instrument cluster with the appropriate visual display, if the vehicle sensor system does not detect any vehicles in the relevant safety zone the driver might have missed.
  • Active Emergency Stop Assist brakes the vehicle to a stop when Active Steering Assist is engaged and the system recognizes that the driver is not intervening in the driving process on a sustained basis.
  • Traffic Sign Assist: Posted speed limits are displayed for the current section of the route through image recognition and information from the navigation system’s digital road map.

More Dream Cars from Mercedes-Benz

For 2018, Mercedes-Benz grows its dream car portfolio with the addition of the new E-Class Coupe and Cabriolet models and new roadster variants in the AMG GT series.

With the 2018 E-Class Cabriolet, Mercedes-Benz is the only luxury brand to offer a four-seater open body style in three distinct model lines. (The C-Class Coupe and Cabriolet were all-new for 2017 and the S-Class Cabriolet returned for the first time in more than four decades).

The 2018 E-Class Coupe and Cabriolet deliver the Mercedes-Benz dream car experience with striking design, spirited performance and highly crafted luxury. Combined with the SLC, SL and AMG GT roadster lines, Mercedes-Benz offers 19 variants of open models (incl. Maybach S650 Cabriolet), plus the smart fortwo electric drive cabrio.

All-New Mercedes E-Class Coupe and Cabriolet Models for 2018

Larger in all dimensions than their predecessors, both the E-Class Coupe and Cabriolet offer significantly more rear seat passenger room than before. Both the Coupe and Cabriolet are available as an E400 with rear-wheel drive or E400 4MATIC variants. Powering all E400 models is a 3.0L biturbo V6 engine equipped with ECO Start/Stop and producing 329 hp and 354 lb-ft of torque. The engine is teamed exclusively with the 9G-TRONIC 9-speed automatic transmission. The E400 Coupes and Cabriolets offer optional AIR BODY CONTROL multi-chamber air suspension augmented by a continuous, electronically controlled adaptive damping system. All versions are available with the extensive roster of Driver Assistance technologies that debuted in the E-Class Sedan for 2017.

Continuing to tradition, the 2018 E-Class Coupe showcases design with its attractive proportions, reduced lines and sensual forms. The bold diamond-block grille with large central Mercedes Star; classic Mercedes-Benz “power domes” (first seen on the 1954 300 SL Gullwing sports car), and distinctive taillamps are characteristics shared with the Cabriolet.

The Cabriolet’s multi-layer fabric acoustic soft top, which shares its construction with the S-Class Cabriolet top, comes Black, Dark Brown, Dark Blue and Red, all at no cost. As on the S-Class Cabriolet, the AIRCAP® wind deflector and AIRSCARF® neck-level heating technology enhance comfort when driving with the top down.

In both body styles, a classic 4-seat layout with premium materials borrows from the S-Class stylebook to create a sporty, modern luxury character. The standard central 12.3-inch high-resolution COMAND display can be augmented by a second, optionally available 12.3-inch widescreen instrument cluster that is merged under a single glass panel to produce a widescreen cockpit.

E-Class Sedan Family Grows; World’s Fastest Wagon Debuts

The E-Class Sedan, which was all new for 2017 and introduced a new generation of available driver assistance technology, adds new variants for 2018. The E400 and E400 4MATIC Sedans feature the 329 hp 3.0L biturbo V6 engine shared with other E400 variants in the E-Class family.

Also new for 2018, the Mercedes-AMG E63 S Wagon shares the 603 hp version of the handcrafted AMG 4.0-liter V8 biturbo engine with the E63 S Sedan. The 627 lb- ft of peak torque, sustained from 2,500-4,500 rpm, is likewise a new benchmark for this engine. The AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT 9-speed transmission is teamed with AMG Performance 4MATIC+ all-wheel drive and three-stage ESP®.

The AMG E63 S Wagon is a true intersection of performance and intelligence, with a sprint from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.4 seconds and a maximum track speed of 180 mph. Both AMG E63 S models ride on all-new AMG multi-chamber air suspension with continuously variable damping, which offers Comfort, Sport and Sport + modes. The AMG Ceramic Composite braking system is optional for both the Sedan and Wagon.

Mercedes-AMG Extensively Upgrades and Expands GT Family

Mercedes-AMG, the high-performance division of Mercedes-Benz, celebrates its 50th anniversary in 2017 and pushes into the next half-century with its largest-ever model lineup. In the U.S. market, 38 AMG models are offered for 2018. The AMG GT line, introduced for 2017, updates the classic grand touring formula with a two- seat automobile suited for road and track, offering both coupe and roadster configurations and multiple choices for performance. The GT and GT S models are joined for 2018 by four new variants with the addition of the GT Roadster, GT C Coupe and Roadster and GT R Coupe.

The GT R is the ultimate track warrior with a 577 hp version of the handcrafted AMG 4.0L V8 biturbo engine and a track-oriented chassis. The GT C models boast a 550 hp version of the engine and inherit their muscular wide-body stance, wider rear track and Active Rear-Wheel Steering from the track-oriented GT R. The GT C duo also feature more standard equipment than the GT models, including the electronic limited-slip differential. All models include the rear-mounted 7-speed AMG SPEEDSHIFT® DCT transaxle.

SUV Leader Adds AMG Performance Models

With seven model lines for 2018, Mercedes-Benz offers the widest selection of luxury SUVs in the U.S. market—from the compact crossover GLA to the iconic G- Class. In total, Mercedes-Benz offers 22 SUV variants for 2018, half of which are AMG performance variants.

Updated GLA Crossover SUV

For 2018, the popular crossover SUV received revised styling, new safety technology and enhanced driving capability. Revised bumpers and new wheel designs emphasize the vehicle’s SUV genes more than before. The available off- road comfort suspension increases ground clearance by an additional 1.2 inch (30mm), yielding improved capability, a higher seating position and off-roader style. The 2018 GLA includes Active Brake Assist as standard and previously optional bi- xenon headlamps are replaced by more efficient LED headlamps for 2018.

The GLA250 models continue with a 208 hp 2.0L turbocharged four-cylinder engine; the Mercedes-AMG GLA45 with a handcrafted 375-horsepower AMG 2.0L turbocharged engine. Both engines are teamed to the 7-speed DCT dual-clutch transmission.

New High-Performance SUV Variants for 2018

The Mercedes-Benz GLC model line, introduced for 2017 to replace the GLK, is brimming with AMG performance models – now numbering five with the debut of the 2018 AMG GLC63 SUV, AMG GLC63 Coupe and AMG GLC63 S Coupe. They join the AMG GLC43 SUV and AMG GLC43 Coupe.

The heart of the AMG GLC63 models is the handcrafted AMG 4.0L V8 biturbo engine, with 469 hp and 479 lb-ft of torque. It’s based on the engine used in the AMG GT sports cars (where it has dry-sump lubrication). The AMG GLC63 SUV can accelerate from 0–60 mph in 3.9 seconds.

The AMG GLC63 Coupe shares its powertrain with the AMG GLC63 SUV, while the AMG GLC63 S Coupe ups the ante to 503 hp and 516 lb-ft of torque and cuts the 0–60 sprint to 3.7 seconds.

The new AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT 9-speed transmission features extremely short shift times, fast multiple downshifts and the double-declutching function. It’s teamed with AMG Performance 4MATIC+ all-wheel drive with fully variable torque distribution, a rear limited-slip differential and a high-performance braking system. Each of the three new AMG GLC63 models rides on an all-new AMG multi-chamber air suspension with adaptive, adjustable damping featuring selectable Comfort, Sport and Sport + modes.

The AMG GLC63 and GLC63 S Coupes add a “RACE” drive program, in which all driving parameters are configured for maximum performance.
