EXTERIOR DESIGN

  • The new 2020 Jaguar XE is now even more striking with a series of exterior enhancements that provide a sharper and more assertive stance
  • Redesigned front end with new bumper and wider grille provides a more planted appearance
  • New rear bumper and rear valance increases visual width and highlights the model’s sporting character
  • R-Dynamic S model features ‘aircraft winglet’-inspired sculpted surfaces in the lower front apertures
  • Standard Premium LED headlights feature a fresh, distinctive ‘J’ Blade daytime running light (DRL) signature with laser-etched Jaguar monogram pattern
  • All-LED tail-lights benefit from a new signature design

An updated exterior design gives the 2020 Jaguar XE a more purposeful and assertive stance. Expanding upon the beautiful proportions of the original design, the sporting intent of the new Jaguar XE has been taken up a level, with contemporary design cues inspired by the Jaguar F-TYPE sportscar. The Jaguar XE appears wider and lower than before, with larger front apertures, a bold design and a muscularity that alludes to the car’s performance and advanced aerodynamics.

The front of the Jaguar XE has been given a new look with a revised bumper and a wider grille, providing a more planted appearance. The enhanced grille features a new lattice mesh design with a fuller, curved profile; a visual cue shared with the Jaguar I-PACE which highlights the muscularity of the design. Wider and sharper lower apertures create a more technical and purposeful impression, with crisply defined profiles and muscular flowing lines.

The rear of the vehicle has also been redesigned and features a new rear bumper and valance which enhances its visual width, giving it a more planted impression while aiding aerodynamic performance.

Standard Premium LED headlights underline the redesigned vehicle’s poised, purposeful character. The slimmer lights also have the effect of visually lowering the nose of the car for a more dynamic stance. The signature ‘J’ Blade DRLs also create a distinctive look with darkened surfaces within the lights helping underline the car’s dynamic character.

Similarly, the slimmer, all-LED tail-lights also contribute to the car’s improved stance. The updated signature light design is an evolution of those found on the Jaguar F-TYPE sportscar and align closely with those on the all-electric Jaguar I-PACE.

Alongside these changes, the Jaguar design team have incorporated a number of elements which underscore their attention to detail. An example of this is the Jaguar Heritage monogram pattern, inspired by the Jaguar D-type, which has been laser-etched into the upper surface of the DRL graphic.

“The new Jaguar XE is all about building on the undeniable sporting proportions of the original car,” said Ian Callum, Jaguar Director of Design. “We’ve given the car much bolder graphics and more visual width; planting it in a way which really illustrates its dynamic intent. The new XE is a wonderfully complete package with a very purposeful exterior matched to a beautifully crafted, sporty interior.”

The performance focused design of the Jaguar XE is even more apparent on the R-Dynamic S model, which features a selection of key design elements that mark it out from the core vehicle. Additional exterior design elements include ‘aircraft winglet’-inspired sculpted surfaces on the front bumper, dark mesh detailing on the rear valance and alternative wheel styles.

INTERIOR DESIGN

  • All-new beautifully appointed interior is re-designed with a heightened attention to detail and benefits from the use of new premium materials and finishes
  • New optional InControl Touch Pro Duo infotainment system and 12.3-inch interactive driver display provide a customizable, intuitive and responsive human-machine interface (HMI)
  • The new Jaguar XE features a SportShift gear selector and JaguarDrive Control ‘toggle’ switch inspired by the F-TYPE, eliminating the rotary control gear selector
  • Redesigned electric leather seats enhance driver and passenger comfort

The beautifully-crafted all-new interior of the 2020 Jaguar XE features extensive use of soft-touch materials, premium veneers and an all-new door design to improve usability and practicality. Every aspect of the cabin has been enhanced for increased convenience, improved storage and better passenger comfort.

The newly appointed interior makes greater use of soft-touch materials throughout. The redesigned interior door panels, center console sides, upper instrument binnacle and top section of the dashboard are all wrapped in premium finishes. Luxurious veneers also extend to the rear cabin.

The premium feel of the interior is heightened by the introduction of the optional 10-inch upper touchscreen of the InControl Touch Pro Duo infotainment system – similar to the one found in the all-electric Jaguar I-PACE. This responsive, intuitive system uses a combination of upper and lower high-resolution touchscreens that are seamlessly integrated to one another, controlled through a combination of capacitive sensors and tactile physical controls to operate key vehicle functions1.

This new human-machine interface (HMI) is designed to reduce driver distraction by separating information and interactive controls logically, with a pair of rotary controllers providing an essential physical connection between the car and the driver1. The ergonomic design of each rotary dial allows precise control over seat heating and cooling, cabin temperature and fan speed.

High tech elements such as optional Wireless Device Charging, clever Smart Settings and the frameless ClearSight interior rear view mirror also make their first appearance in the 2020 Jaguar XE.

Using a wide angle rear-facing camera mounted within the roof antenna, the new ClearSight Rear View Mirror system is designed to feed images onto a high-definition screen within the frameless rear view mirror assisting the driver in obtaining an unobstructed view behind the vehicle – unhindered by tall rear passengers, poor light or rain on the rear windshield2.

Taking inspiration from the Jaguar F-TYPE sportscar, the new Jaguar XE features a SportShift gear selector and JaguarDrive Control ‘toggle’ switch on the revised center console, for a more intuitive and dynamic driving experience. A new multi-function steering wheel, also shared with the Jaguar I-PACE, features hidden-until-lit graphics and capacitive switches for intuitive, tactile control of key functions. Satin Chrome gear shift paddles feature as standard on the R-Dynamic S model (optional on S model) and add to the sportiness of the drive.

All new Jaguar XE models feature leather upholstery with embossed headrests as standard. The new seats are more comfortable and feature beautifully crafted details including twin needle stitching and new Jaguar seat labelling.

All-new door trims now feature wrapped, angled grab handles which provide a more tactile and user friendly experience. This improvement also drastically increases the amount of storage available within the doors, which now easily accommodate large drinks bottles alongside small items. Door armrests are wider and softer than before, providing superior comfort. This attention to detail enhances the premium feel of the cabin and increases the sensation of interior space.

PERFORMANCE

  • Two four-cylinder Ingenium gasoline engines are available, producing 247HP and 296HP
  • The high performing 296HP Ingenium engine paired with AWD emphasizes the vehicle’s inherent sporting abilities with acceleration from 0-60 mph in 5.4 seconds3
  • SportShift gear selector replaces rotary controller and delivers a more dynamic driving experience
  • JaguarDrive Control puts four settings at the driver’s fingertips
  • Available Adaptive and Configurable Dynamics provide the optimum balance between comfort and control

The Jaguar XE is designed and engineered to be the best handling and most dynamic compact sports sedan in the segment. The new powertrain range for the 2020 Jaguar XE eliminates complexity, and features driver controls directly derived from the Jaguar F-TYPE, emphasizing its sportscar character.

The lightweight aluminum-intensive body structure of the 2020 Jaguar XE is extremely robust and, together with a double wishbone front suspension and an Integral Link rear suspension, plays a key role in the vehicle’s exceptional handling. Aluminum makes up 75 percent of the XE body structure and combines with proven rear- and all-wheel drive systems, plus an advanced four-cylinder engine for dynamic handling and performance.

Customers can choose between two advanced turbocharged four-cylinder Ingenium gasoline engines with outputs of 247HP and 296HP – badged P250 and P300 respectively. Delivering acceleration from 0-60mph in 5.4 seconds (0-100km/h in 5.7 seconds)3, the 296HP Ingenium gasoline engine, with standard all-wheel drive, is the performance powertrain of choice. Revised software programming providing enhanced new engine mapping and uprated hardware components over the P250 powertrain mean P300 models benefit from better throttle response and 295 lb-ft of torque, ensuring an engaging drive and impressive acceleration.

For 2020 model year, P250 models will be offered in rear- and all-wheel drive, while P300 models benefit from all-wheel drive as standard. The rear-wheel drive powertrain delivers trademark Jaguar handling, feel and balance while the advanced all-wheel drive system automatically distributes torque between the front and rear axles depending on the driving style and conditions. This intelligent set-up is designed to deliver greater driver confidence on varying surfaces and weather conditions while retaining the vehicle’s exceptional handling characteristics2.

Continuing the theme of heightened driver engagement, the new XE features the distinctive Jaguar SportShift gear selector, first seen in the F-TYPE sportscar. The intuitive design replaces the previous rotary controller and allows the driver to leave the car in full automatic mode or use the shifter for manual gear changes – pulling the lever back to select a higher gear or instinctively pushing it forwards to choose a lower ratio. Alternatively, available Satin Chrome steering wheel paddle shifters can be used to control the eight-speed automatic gearbox.

Standard on all XE models is the JaguarDrive Control interface which is also featured on the Jaguar F-TYPE. The sportscar-inspired toggle switch on the center console allows the driver to choose from four settings for the steering, throttle response and gearbox: Comfort, Eco, Rain/Ice/Snow and Dynamic. Activating Dynamic mode amplifies the car’s sporting character, with faster gear shifts, sharper throttle response and increased steering weighting.

Drivers are able to shape the driving experience further and with greater ease thanks to the optional Configurable Dynamics system. This feature allows drivers to set up the vehicle to their personal preference by choosing Comfort or Dynamic settings for the engine, gearbox and steering through the central touchscreen. Where specified, Adaptive Dynamics constantly adjusts the dampers to provide the optimum balance between comfort and refinement.

Available on the new XE for the first time is the Dynamic Handling Pack, which groups a number of key performance-related items into one single compelling offer: Configurable Dynamics, Adaptive Dynamics, larger Performance Brakes, Colored Brake Calipers and Trunk Lid Spoiler.

TECHNOLOGY

  • InControl Touch Pro Duo infotainment system and 12.3 inch Interactive Driver Display now available providing a customizable, intuitive and responsive human-machine interface1
  • Optional ClearSight Rear View Mirror includes a high-definition display screen for added rearward visibility2,9
  • ‘Smart Settings’ technology uses artificial intelligence to learn the preferences of individual drivers and adjusts seat, mirror, audio and climate settings automatically
  • First Jaguar model available with Wireless Device Charging
  • Latest driver assistance technologies available including Head-up Display, Driver Condition Monitoring, Park Assist and Blind Spot Assist
  • Enhanced smartphone integration with Apple CarPlayâ and Android Autoä5,6 standard on all models

First introduced on the all-electric Jaguar I-PACE, the advanced Jaguar InControl® Touch Pro Duo infotainment system will now be offered on the 2020 Jaguar XE sports sedan. Designed to place control of all key systems at the driver’s fingertips using a pair of upper and lower HD touchscreens and intuitive, tactile rotary dials, the minimalist system features a large upper screen which delivers impressive clarity, responsiveness and enhanced functionality1.

The 5.5-inch lower touchscreen can be used to adjust settings, such as for climate control, without disrupting the upper screen. It features intuitive capacitive switches that allow the driver to change settings without diverting their attention from the road1. Combined with the latest generation 12.3-inch Interactive Driver Display instrument cluster, all of the important information a driver needs is logically and intuitively displayed in an effort to minimize distraction.

A second generation Head-up Display is also available as part of the optional Technology Pack and is designed to help drivers keep their eyes on the road by projecting key information such as satellite navigation directions, current speed data, gear selection, incoming caller contact information and driver assistance system alerts directly into the driver’s line of sight2.

Also available as part of the optional Technology Pack is the new ClearSight Rear View Mirror which uses a rear-facing camera to feed images to a high-resolution screen within the mirror itself9. A small toggle switch on the mirror allows the driver to switch seamlessly between the standard mirror and the camera feed. This allows drivers to have a clearer view behind the vehicle even when the rear windshield is obstructed by rear passengers, items in the loadspace or due to inclement weather.

Designed to integrate seamlessly within the roof-mounted shark fin antenna, the high-definition camera works in varying weather conditions with a protective lip and clever hydrophobic coating to repel water and ensure the camera lens remains clean.

Offered as part of the Connected Navigation Pack, the new Smart Settings feature uses artificial intelligence to learn the preferences of individual drivers. Using key fob and smartphone information, it is able to recognize who is using the car and automatically adjust the seating and steering column position (if vehicle is equipped with memory) to their chosen positions. Over time it learns individual climate control and music listening preferences, even cueing up the most popular phone contacts at different times.

Wireless Device Charging is also available for the first time, allowing occupants to place a compatible smartphone in the center console for it to be charged without the need for cables.

The new Jaguar XE also features the latest driver assistance technologies including Driver Condition Monitor which is available as standard for 2020 model year. The system is designed to measure steering, throttle and brake inputs, as well as analyzing lane departure and use of the directional indicators to determine the driver’s state of attentiveness. If the system’s algorithms determine that the driver is drowsy, a coffee cup symbol is displayed in the instrument cluster to warn of the need to take a break2.

The optional Park Assist feature is designed to identify suitable parallel and perpendicular parking spaces using ultrasonic sensors. Once a suitable space has been identified, the system is designed to steer the vehicle into and, in the case of parallel parking spaces, out from the space2. The driver would operate the accelerator, brakes and select either ‘drive’ or ‘reverse’ gears.

New Premium LED headlights feature a distinctive ‘J’ Blade DRL signature and feature Auto High Beam Assist as standard. Auto High Beam Assist uses a forward-facing camera to detect oncoming traffic and is designed to automatically switch between the high and low beam2.

Connectivity has also been enhanced with the introduction of a Smartphone Pack5, which features Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™6 as standard. The system mirrors the driver’s smartphone on the 10-inch HD touchscreen allowing customers to access compatible apps quickly and conveniently while on the move5.

When equipped, the XE also functions as a 4G Wi-Fi hotspot, enabling up to eight devices to connect to the internet through the vehicle antenna7.

The 2020 Jaguar XE will be priced from $39,9004 when it arrives in retailer showrooms Summer of 2019, and comes standard with a best-in-class ownership package, Jaguar EliteCare8, that includes:

  • Jaguar commissions series of unique hyper-real artwork to launch the new XE
  • Trio of hyper-real paintings show the refreshed sports sedan’s refined exterior, new interior and advanced technology
  • Giant canvases are created by British artist, Howard Lee, who took 140 hours to capture the intricate details of the new 2020 Jaguar XE
  • Viewers can see the works come to life and try to separate art from reality here: usajaguar.us/2T2o0XP

(MAHWAH, N.J.) – February 26, 2019 – Jaguar has revealed the new 2020 Jaguar XE sports sedan in unique fashion, by commissioning a series of highly detailed paintings which blur the lines between art and reality.

Jaguar teamed up with British artist Howard Lee to create the giant 4.9 by 4.9 ft (1.5 by 1.5m) canvases. The trio of hyper-real works show the updated exterior design and new interior of the refreshed sports sedan, and telling the difference between images of the real car and those created with acrylic and oil painting is nearly impossible.

The works capture the bold new face of the Jaguar sports sedan, its sleek new full-LED headlights and beautifully appointed new interior. The paintings took Lee 140 hours to create as he captured every aspect of the car to give his work a truly lifelike appearance.

“Working in a digital age doesn’t mean the end of hand-drawn car design,” said Ian Callum, Jaguar Director of Design. “Creating the Jaguar XE’s sleek and dynamic appearance begins with pencil lines on a page of a sketchbook. Howard’s incredibly realistic works sit at the other end of the spectrum. They showcase the design elements on both the inside and outside of the car that reaffirm the XE as the definitive sports saloon.”

The design of the 2020 Jaguar XE has been taken to the next level, with new front and rear bumpers with larger openings, a redesigned grille and slim full-LED headlights giving the vehicle a sharper, more aggressive appearance.

“I’ve drawn everything from hyper-real clothing and food but this is the first time I’ve drawn a car,” said artist Howard Lee. “The new Jaguar XE has these pure lines and perfectly judged proportions which were really enjoyable to recreate. They really bring this car to life, even when it is just static on a piece of paper.”

The new luxurious interior of the XE delivers more comfort, quality and convenience for all occupants. Every aspect of the cabin has been enhanced with the use of premium materials to provide increased attention to detail, improved storage and comfort.

The new XE also features the latest advanced technologies including the available Jaguar InControl® Touch Pro Duo infotainment system and a high definition (HD) 12.3-inch Interactive Driver Display2. The new optional ClearSight Rear View Mirror transforms into an HD video screen at the flip of a switch to give drivers a wider, unobstructed rear view1. Other technologies include available Wireless Device Charging, a full-color Head-up Display1 and standard Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto connectivity2,3.
