When it comes to half-ton pickups, the action always used to be in front – as in power and torque found under the hood – or in the rear, as in bed size and cargo hauling capability. In recent years, however, equal importance has been focused on the middle. Full-size pickup cabins are often now as fully equipped and indulgent as most luxury vehicle interiors. The Nissan TITAN half-ton pickup is no exception.

Now, for the 2019 model year, TITAN Crew Cab and King Cab models add the “emotion of a live performance” created by the new, segment-exclusive Fender Premium Audio System. The system is standard on TITAN Crew Cab SL, SL Midnight Edition and Platinum Reserve models and optional on Crew Cab and King Cab PRO-4X models.

All models also receive a new 7.0-inch touchscreen audio/IT display with NissanConnectSM featuring Apple CarPlay™ and Android Auto™. An additional USB media port (two total) is also included, while a pair of illuminated USB-A charge ports is added to PRO-4X, SL and Platinum Reserve grades.

And, as part of a Nissan model line initiative, the innovative Rear Door Alert (RDA)1 system is now standard on all King Cab and Crew Cab models. The system uses the vehicle’s door sensors, horn and message display to help remind drivers to check the back seat after the vehicle is parked. Nissan plans to have RDA standard on all four-door trucks, sedans and SUV nameplates by model year 2022.

Exterior changes for 2019 include a new body-color outer grille with gloss metallic black inner treatment for the SV grade (previously available only with PRO-4X). The new look replaces the previous chrome grille treatment. And finally, two new exterior paint colors are offered: Midnight Pine Metallic and Moab Sunset Metallic.

Again in 2019, TITAN is available in a full range of rugged half-ton designs, including Single Cab, King Cab and Crew Cab body configurations, 4×2 and 4×4 drive, and a choice of up to five grade levels. Every TITAN is powered by a 390-horsepower 5.6-liter Endurance® V8 gasoline engine mated to a 7-speed automatic transmission.

The family adventure-ready TITAN Crew Cab is available in five well-equipped trim levels – S, SV, PRO-4X, SL and Platinum Reserve. All are offered with 4×2 or 4×4 drive configurations, except for the PRO-4X model, which is available exclusively as a 4×4. TITAN King Cab is available in S, SV (4×2, 4×4) and PRO-4X (4×4) grades, while TITAN Single Cab is offered in S and SV 4×2 and 4×4 models.

The popular TITAN Midnight Edition Package, first introduced in 2018, is again available on Crew Cab SV and SL grade 4×4 and 4×2 models. The TITAN Midnight Edition Package includes a body color front grille with dark insert, dark headlamps, black fog lamp finisher, black exterior badging, black mirrors, black door handles, 20-inch black wheels, body color front and rear bumpers, black step rails, charcoal interior trim and “Midnight Edition” exterior badge.

TITAN, along with the TITAN XD, was developed with core Nissan planning, design, engineering and manufacturing teams contributing from Tennessee, California, Michigan, Arizona and Mississippi. TITAN is assembled in Canton, Mississippi, with its V8 engines assembled in Decherd, Tennessee2.

All 2019 TITAN models are covered by Nissan’s “America’s Best Truck Warranty”3 – featuring bumper-to-bumper coverage of 5-years/100,000-miles, whichever comes first. Vehicles covered by the new warranty, which includes basic and powertrain coverage, include all TITAN V8 gasoline-powered models and diesel and V8 gasoline-powered 2019 TITAN XD models.

The TITAN Exterior: Aggressive Style, Smart Utility

The 2019 TITAN builds on the foundation of design innovation established by the original first-generation Titan full-size pickup, including bed and cab features that are now industry standard, and the rugged workhorse sensibility of the TITAN XD.

TITAN has the same aggressive style of the TITAN XD, but is built on a completely separate chassis and is about a foot shorter in wheelbase (139.8 inches versus XD’s 151.6 inches). At 228.1 inches in length, it is 14.7 inches shorter than the larger TITAN XD (242.8 inches). TITAN and TITAN XD share the same cabs, and both offer similar ruggedness, durability and innovative interior, bed and driving aid features.

The TITAN’s exterior design was created at Nissan Design America in La Jolla, Calif. The design’s focus on improved aerodynamics incorporates a front spoiler, roof and tailgate spoilers, front tow hook hole cover, underbody covers, rear tire wind deflectors and a seal between the cab and bed.

TITAN also includes an Active Grille Shutter, which helps reduce drag by closing the grille opening behind the radiator when a large amount of airflow is not needed (based on coolant temperature, vehicle speed and air conditioning system pressure). Available exterior features include LED headlights and taillights, signature Daytime Running Lights, puddle lamps, and step rails for cabin and bed entry/exit.

The 2019 TITAN Crew Cab features a standard 5.5-foot bed, while the TITAN Single Cab offers a standard 8.0-foot bed. TITAN King Cab includes a 6.5-foot bed. All beds are designed to work hard and play hard, with a wide range of available functionality features.

For example, Nissan’s popular Utili-track® Bed Channel System features four heavy-duty aluminum alloy cleats that move and lock anywhere along the walls, as well as bed floor and header tracks that give the user endless tie-down possibilities.

Dual lockable in-bed “TITAN Box” storage boxes, available as an accessory on TITAN Crew Cab Platinum Reserve, sit sight-unseen at street level and can hold a wide range of essential work and recreational equipment. Unlike other pickup bed storage boxes, the TITAN units are accessible from inside the bed without having to remove a camper top or tonneau cover. The boxes are watertight (and drainable) and can be used as a cooler for picnics or tailgating. They are also easily removable for times when extra bed capacity is required.

Other TITAN bed features include the popular spray-on bedliner, flush-mounted LED bedrail lighting, cargo and tailgate lamps, 110-volt in-bed access and a damped tailgate that is light to lift and smoothly damped when lowering.

For 2019, TITAN is available in a range of 11 exterior paint colors: Java Metallic, Forged Copper Metallic, Magnetic Black Metallic, Brilliant Silver Metallic, Gun Metallic, Cayenne Red Metallic, Pearl White (premium color), Glacier White, Deep Blue Pearl Metallic and new Midnight Pine Metallic and Moab Sunset Metallic (premium color).

A Full-Feature, Multi-Functional Interior

TITAN designers focused on enhancing utility and on making the interior easy to use through an improved layout of switches, driver controls and storage spaces. The Crew Cab interior offers ample storage, including 2nd row underseat storage with a locking lid for added security, along with an integrated foldout flat floor.

For all body styles, a steering column-mounted shift lever puts controls within easy reach and makes room for a huge center console – large enough to hold a computer tablet with case or a 15-inch laptop without giving up rear cupholders and 2nd row climate control vents.

The standard front and rear Zero Gravity seats help maximize posture positioning for enhanced comfort during long distance driving. Heating and cooling front seats are also available, along with a choice of water-repellant fabric or durable leather-appointments. Heated front and rear seats are available in both cloth and leather trim levels.

All switches are grouped by function type, and location is based on frequency of use. Other convenient interior design features include seven assist grips, console-side map pockets, 12-volt and 110-volt power outlets (in addition to the bed), Remote Engine Start4 with climate control function, and the new, available 12-speaker Fender Premium Audio system.

For 2019, all TITAN models receive a new 7.0-inch touchscreen audio/IT display with NissanConnect® featuring Apple CarPlay™ and Android Auto™. An additional USB media port (two total) is also included, while a pair of illuminated USB-A charge ports is added to PRO-4X, SL and Platinum Reserve grades. The premium grade instrument panel includes a combination of analog and digital gauges, along with a 5.0-inch color display

The available Intelligent Around View® Monitor (I-AVM)5 provides a composite “bird’s eye” view of the surrounding area from front, rear and side cameras to help with parking and pulling in and out of tight spaces. The system also includes Moving Object Detection (MOD), which helps alert the driver to detected moving objects around the vehicle via an on-screen notification and warning chime.

Also available on select TITAN models is the Nissan Navigation System with 3D building graphics and satellite imagery. Connected navigation features include online POI search and online premium traffic information, HD Radio, SiriusXM® Traffic™ and SiriusXM® Travel Link (weather, fuel prices, movie listings, stock info, sports and parking) (SiriusXM® subscription required, sold separately).

Available NissanConnect® Services powered by SiriusXM® provides compatible smartphone and smartwatch access to features such as Remote Engine Start/Stop, Remote Door Lock/Unlock, Valet Alert, and more. Additionally, certain remote features are accessible through the NissanConnect Services Amazon Alexa Skill and Action for the Google Assistant. (Amazon, Alexa and all related logos are trademarks of Amazon.com, Inc. or its affiliates. Google is a trademark of Google LLC.)

Available TITAN technology features include Blind Spot Warning (BSW), Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA) and standard RearView Monitor.

Smooth, Efficient 5.6L Endurance ® V8

Every 2019 TITAN is equipped with the advanced 5.6-liter Endurance® V8 engine, rated at 390 horsepower @ 5,800 rpm and 394 lb-ft of torque. The engine utilizes Nissan’s VVEL (Variable Valve Event & Lift) technology, which combines hydraulic-controlled variable valve timing and electronically controlled variable valve lift on the intake side to provide high performance and crisp response. Throttle response is enhanced by directly controlling the intake valve, rather than using the traditional method of controlling intake with a throttle valve, and valve timing and opening with non-variable camshafts.

The Endurance® V8 also features Direct Injection Gas (DIG™) technology, which provides better wide-open throttle performance and improved fuel economy and emissions performance (versus a non-direct-injection system) by reducing engine knock, improving combustion stability and offering precise injection control. An 11.2:1 compression ratio is provided by a special piston design, aiding overall engine efficiency and performance, and a Multi Control Valve (MCV) assists in managing the engine’s thermal efficiency better than a traditional thermostat. Helping handle the engine’s power and torque is a heavy-duty 7-speed automatic transmission tuned exclusively for TITAN.

Nissan TITAN 4×4 models feature a transfer case designed to ensure maximum power distribution in every gear. It distributes torque to both ends and provides four-wheel drive when added traction is needed on snow, ice, sand, mud, muck, dirt, water, gravel – whatever the job site presents.

Durable off-road performance has also been emphasized, with features such as Hill Descent Control (PRO-4X only), Hill Start Assist, Brake Limited-Slip Differential (BLSD) and electronic locking rear differential. An off-road gauge uses accelerometer data to calculate the vehicle’s pitch and roll angles.

Every TITAN also utilizes a durable chassis design, starting with the fully boxed, full-length ladder frame. The front suspension is a double-wishbone design, while a rigid rear axle suspension utilizes hefty leaf springs and leaf bushings, along with twin-tube shock absorbers. Hefty stabilizer bars are utilized front and rear. PRO-4X models feature Bilstein mono-tube off-road shocks. Also available is an Electronic Locking Rear Differential. Hydraulic cab-mounts help isolate occupants from the chassis.

The 2019 TITAN rides on 18-inch steel or aluminum-alloy wheels or 20-inch aluminum-alloy wheels with 265/75R18, 265/70R18, 275/60R20 all-season or 275/70R18 all-terrain tires. Black-painted 20-inch aluminum-alloy wheels are offered with the Midnight Edition Package.

Braking is provided by a 4-wheel disc system with 13.78 x 1.2-inch front/13.58 x 0.8-inch rear ventilated discs front and rear with hydraulic power assist. The high brake fluid pressure generated by an electric pump assists brake pedal force for a confident feel. Responsive steering is provided by a rack-and-pinion steering system.

Towing and Hauling – Informed and In Control

Like the TITAN XD, TITAN offers cutting-edge available towing, utility features and driving aids, including an Integrated Trailer Brake Controller, Trailer Sway Control (TSC), Tow/Haul Mode with Downhill Speed Control and a Trailer Light Check system that allows one-person hook-up operation – including checking turn signals, brake lights and running/clearance lights. It offers an available maximum towing capacity of 9,660 pounds and maximum payload capacity of 1,860 pounds when properly equipped.

Also assisting trailer hook-ups is the RearView Monitor with Trailer Guides, and Intelligent Around View® Monitor (I-AVM) with Moving Object Detection (MOD). TITAN also includes a range of other available advanced driving aids, including Blind Spot Warning (BSW), Front and Rear Sonar System and Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS).

“America’s Best Truck Warranty”:

5 Years/100,000 miles bumper-to-bumper for 2017 TITAN and TITAN XD

  • 5-year/100,000-mile bumper-to-bumper warranty beats competitors’ standard protection programs by two years and 64,000 miles
  • Includes powertrain warranty – helping give Nissan full-size truck owners added trust and peace of mind
  • Covers all 2017 TITAN Endurance® V8 gas and 2017 TITAN XD Cummins® diesel and Endurance V8 gasoline-powered models
  • New limited warranty matches that of all models of Nissan Commercial Vehicles, including NV Cargo, NV Passenger and NV200

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Nissan today announced “America’s Best Truck Warranty”* on its 2017 TITAN and TITAN XD full-size pickups – featuring bumper-to-bumper coverage of 5-years/100,000-miles, whichever comes first. The announcement is part of Nissan’s “Year of the Truck” – a new product onslaught of pickups, SUVs and CUVs.

Vehicles covered by the new warranty – which includes basic and powertrain coverage – include all TITAN V8 gasoline-powered models and diesel and V8 gasoline-powered 2017 TITAN XD models, including both 4×4 and 4×2 drive configurations, in Crew Cab and recently revealed Single Cab models. The 2017 TITANs and TITAN XDs are scheduled to begin arriving at Nissan dealers nationwide later this month.

“We’re pleased to now offer the same confidence-inspiring protection as our commercial vehicles for our entire range of 2017 TITAN and TITAN XD full-size pickups,” said Fred Diaz, division vice president and general manager, North America Trucks and Light Commercial Vehicles, Nissan North America, Inc. “The new bumper-to-bumper coverage shows customers that Nissan stands behind the quality of its vehicles – including the ones that are subject to the hardest use.”

Nissan introduced “America’s Best Commercial Van Warranty” – also 5 years / 100,000 miles – in June 2014 as a demonstration of confidence in its expanding light commercial vehicle lineup. The results have been very positive, with Nissan NV Cargo and Passenger van sales up nearly 10 percent in 2016; NV200 cargo van sales have increased 17 percent through July.

“Nissan Commercial Vehicle models have experienced remarkable longevity, with some registering more than 500,000+ miles of relatively wear-free service**,” added Diaz. “We think that extending the same coverage to our full-size pickups, whether used for personal or commercial use, is a game changer in the segment.”

The all-new, category-busting TITAN XD was introduced for the 2016 model year, leading Nissan’s all-out assault on the highly competitive full-size truck segment.

For the 2017 model year, Nissan adds an all-new TITAN half-ton pickup, powered by Nissan’s new 390-horsepower 5.6-liter Endurance® V8 engine, to the expanding TITAN XD lineup. TITAN XD is currently offered in a Crew Cab body with a choice of a powerful Cummins® 5.0L V8 Turbo Diesel or the Endurance® V8. New TITAN XD and TITAN Single Cabs, the first single cab variants in TITAN history, join the lineup in late fall. A King Cab body configuration, along with a V6 engine, will follow at a later date.

“TITAN will ultimately be available in a total of three cabs, three bed lengths, three engines, 4×4 and 4×2 drive and S, SV, SL, PRO-4X and Platinum Reserve trim levels – covering about 85 percent of the total light pickup marketplace,” said Diaz. “And each and every one of them will be covered by the new 5-year/100,000-mile bumper-to-bumper warranty – the best truck warranty in America.”

Rear Door Alert technology to become standard on all four-door Nissan nameplates

Nissan Rear Door Alert honks to remind drivers to check the back seat
  • Nissan’s Rear Door Alert (RDA)1 is the industry’s first system that uses the horn, in addition to door sensors and a message display on the center instrument panel, to remind drivers to check the back seat after the vehicle is parked
  • For model year 2019, Nissan will add RDA as standard equipment to eight additional nameplates, including the best-selling Rogue and the all-new Altima
  • By model year 2022, Nissan plans to have RDA standard on all four-door trucks, sedans and SUV nameplates
  • The recently patented technology was launched as standard equipment on the family-friendly Pathfinder SUV last year

Nissan is making Rear Door Alert technology standard on more models to remind customers to check the back seat and help reduce potential heatstroke incidents.

Originally developed by two mothers who are also engineers, Rear Door Alert reminds owners to check the rear seat upon exiting their vehicle by using a series of distinctive honks as the driver walks away from the vehicle. Nissan is the first automaker to use a honking horn as an alert for this type of feature.

“I’m proud to see Nissan lead the way by making Rear Door Alert standard on more models,” said Marlene Mendoza, a mechanical engineer who helped create the technology. “What started as a chat with my colleague, Elsa Foley, is now innovative technology being adopted in more Nissan models. It is a testament to Nissan’s culture.”

After Mendoza and Foley presented the idea, the project moved into full development at Nissan Technical Center North America (NTCNA) in Farmington Hills, Michigan.

“The idea was inspired when I accidentally left a pan of lasagna in the back seat of my car overnight,” added Mendoza, a mother of three, who was pregnant when the idea struck. “The worst thing was the car smelled for days, but it made me ask myself, ‘What if I left something far more important back there?'”

The temperature inside of a vehicle can increase to dangerous levels quickly, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). Even with moderate outside temperatures in the mid-60s, a vehicle’s interior can quickly heat up to more than 110 degrees Fahrenheit.

How Rear Door Alert works

RDA, which currently is standard equipment on the 2018 Nissan Pathfinder, monitors when the rear door is opened and closed before and after the vehicle is in motion. The system responds with a series of notifications if a rear door was used prior to a trip, but was not re-opened after the trip. Once the vehicle is in park and the ignition is turned off, the system will first display a notification in the instrument panel and progresses to subtle, distinctive chirps of the horn.

The RDA system is easy to configure and can be temporarily, or permanently, turned off through a menu in the cluster display.

“If you open a rear door and put something in the rear seat, Rear Door Alert will help you remember when you get to your destination that you may have forgotten it,” Mendoza said. “By drawing attention back to the vehicle while the driver is walking away, the honking alerts you to recheck the back seat in addition to visual or interior audible alerts.”

Mendoza (listed as Henry on the patent) and Foley are the inventors on U.S. Patent No. 9,734,695 for the “activity monitoring apparatus,” otherwise known as Rear Door Alert. This is the first patent granted to either Mendoza or Foley. 1. Rear Door Alert is only intended to remind people to check the rear seats of their vehicle under certain circumstances. It cannot prevent accidents caused by inattention or carelessness.
