NEW 2016 NISSAN ALTIMA PRICING ANNOUNCED

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Nissan today announced U.S. pricing for the new 2016 Nissan Altima, which goes on sale November 11 at Nissan dealers nationwide with a starting MSRP of $22,500 USD*. Altima, Nissan’s best-selling vehicle in North America, has been transformed for the 2016 model year in one of the most extensive mid-cycle product makeovers in Nissan history.

The 2016 Altima offers a wide-ranging list of enhancements, including a refreshed exterior following the new Nissan “Energetic Flow” design language introduced on the all-new 2015 Murano and 2016 Maxima. The redesign offers a new lowered muscular front fascia, distinctive V-motion grille, new hood and fenders with tailored character lines, and available signature LED boomerang headlights and Daytime Running Lights (late availability).

In addition, the Altima model lineup has been expanded for 2016 with a new Altima SR grade featuring 18-inch aluminum-alloy wheels, smoked headlights, paddle shifters, rear spoiler, unique suspension tuning and sport interior accents.

The 2016 Altima also offers class-leading** standard fuel economy of 39 miles per gallon highway for Altima 2.5-liter engine equipped models. No other mid-size sedan has shown consistent fuel economy gains over the last decade like Altima has, including a 26 percent increase since 2006.

The list of available Altima Safety Shield technologies has also been expanded and includes class-exclusive*** Predictive Forward Collision Warning (PFCW), radar-based Blind Spot Warning (BSW), Forward Emergency Braking (FEB), Intelligent Cruise Control (ICC) and Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA).

All 2016 Altima grade levels also feature retuned steering and suspension, providing greatly enhanced ride comfort, handling and quietness. Performance has been refined with the Xtronic transmission’s third-generation D-step logic, which simulates traditional automatic transmission shift points.

The new Altima interior design includes a new C-stack and cupholder design, available 5.0-inch and 7.0-inch displays, Zero Gravity seats, soft-touch seat and door panel materials and custom finishers – providing a premium look and feel throughout.

Upgraded technology features include standard Siri™ Eyes Free and NissanConnectSM with Mobile Apps (except 2.5 grade), available NissanConnect with Navigation and Mobile Apps, and NissanConnect Services Powered by SiriusXM® telematics (subscription required, sold separately).

With the addition of the new SR model, the 2016 Altima is available in a choice of seven models – 2.5, 2.5 S, 2.5 SR, 2.5 SV, 2.5 SL, 3.5 SR and 3.5 SL. The five 2.5-liter models feature a 182-horsepower 2.5-liter DOHC inline 4-cylinder engine, while 3.5-liter Altimas offer a 270-horsepower 3.5-liter DOHC V6.

NEW 2016 NISSAN ALTIMA ADOPTS THE LATEST DESIGN LANGUAGE FOR A FRESH NEW LOOK

When Nissan rolled out a series of futuristic auto show concept vehicles a few years ago, few people believed that the boldly styled designs would ever see the light of a Nissan showroom. Yet against the odds they started coming.

First, there was the Nissan Resonance Concept, a wild mid-size crossover concept that evolved into the 2015 Murano. Then Nissan Sport Sedan Concept strongly influenced the radical new 2016 Nissan Maxima. And, the new Nissan design language is making its way into more and more vehicles – including Nissan’s best-selling vehicle in the United States, the Nissan Altima.

For the new 2016 Altima the design team adopted key aspects of both the exterior and interior styling themes to give the popular mid-size sedan a fresh new appearance, including the “Energetic Flow” exterior styling theme and “Gliding Wing” interior layout.

The front end of the 2016 Altima offers the most dramatic change, since all panels and pieces forward of the A-pillars are new – fascia, bumper, fenders, hood and lights. Two key elements are the redesigned V-Motion grille and boomerang-shape headlights, similar to those found on the Murano and Maxima. The look is dramatically different from the 2015 Altima design, with a wide, deeply sculpted lower bumper, integrated fog lights (SR, SV and SL models) and prominent chrome-trimmed grille.

The reshaped headlight units incorporate halogen high beam and projector low beam lights. LED projector low beam lights and LED signature Daytime Running Lights that sweep into the wide raised hood are standard on Altima 3.5 SR and 3.5 SL grades (late availability) and available on 2.5 SR and 2.5 SL. Altima SR adds smoked headlight bezels.

The rear of the new Altima is marked by a new sculpted bumper with a dark lower accent, a new trunk lid – with integrated rear spoiler on Altima SR models – and lower, wider boomerang-shaped combination lights that help provide a more expressive, higher quality appearance when approaching the vehicle from behind. The four-piece combination lights incorporate the tail- and stop lights, turn lamps and backup lights.

Along with the revised appearance, the new Altima also offers a 10 percent improvement in coefficient of drag – to 0.26 Cd from the previous 0.29 Cd*. The changes come from the addition of an active grille shutter (three percent gain), underfloor aero cover additions (three percent) and the new front and rear fascia and windshield designs (four percent).

The already extensive Altima color palette adds a new Deep Blue Pearl color for 2016, along with Java Metallic, Brilliant Silver, Gun Metallic, Super Black, Cayenne Red, Pearl White, Glacier White and Storm Blue.

Finishing off the new exterior appearance are dramatic new 17-inch and 18-inch machine-finish aluminum-alloy wheel designs.

The 2016 Altima’s refined interior design follows the new “Gliding Wing” design language, shared with Murano and also the new Rogue. Central to the new look is the revised C-stack with available 5.0-inch and 7.0-inch displays for the NissanConnectSM with Mobile Apps and available NissanConnect Navigation with Mobile Apps.

In addition, the standard Zero Gravity front seats have been reshaped and the woven cloth seating and door panel materials feature a more open weave pattern, providing a premium look and feel throughout the Altima interior. The steering wheel has also been refined for 2016. The twin cupholders on the center console now accommodate mug handles in response to customer input.

The new Altima SR grade includes blue sport interior accents on the steering wheel, door panels and seats – to contrast the Charcoal interior color. The SR also features a leather-wrapped steering wheel, paddle shifters, and leather-wrapped gear shifter.

2016 Nissan Altima SR adds performance and style

With the addition of the new SR model to the 2016 Altima line-up, Nissan is taking dead aim at one of the fastest growing areas of the mid-size sedan segment – sport variants. Among some competitors, the so-called “sport” grades account for nearly 40 percent of total sales. Altima already is one of the sportiest designs in the segment, however the company is taking a more Nissan-like approach, adding a level of true enhanced performance to go with the requisite larger wheels and spoiler.

Better yet, in order to keep the new Altima SR affordable for younger buyers who might be moving into the mid-size sedan segment for the first time, the new SR grade is based on the Altima S, rather than the higher grade Altima SV or Altima SL.

“Anyone can dress up a sedan with custom wheels and a body kit, but that’s not in keeping with Nissan’s longstanding performance heritage,” said Pierre Loing, vice president, Product Planning, Nissan North America, Inc. “Altima SR features a 12.5 percent increase in cornering performance, and we’re making SR available with our refined 2.5-liter inline 4-cylinder engine and our higher-powered 3.5-liter V6. It’s like having your espresso shot in a choice of Grande or Venti®.”

This is the first time 18-inch aluminum-alloy wheels are offered on a 2.5-liter Altima model.

“As the specs show, the Altima SR is a real performance vehicle for the masses – with features such as a 258-percent stiffer rear stabilizer bar for better rotation – it’s not just a marketing package,” added Loing. “We think it is a great addition to the already stellar Altima model lineup.”

SMYRNA, Tenn. – Production begins today in Smyrna for the updated 2016 Nissan Altima, Nissan’s top-selling vehicle.

Nissan’s Smyrna, Tennessee assembly plant boasts production of two of the best-selling vehicles in the U.S. – the hot selling Rogue compact crossover that was redesigned for 2014, and the Altima that starting today is getting a mid-cycle refresh for the 2016 model year.

“Altima is Nissan’s bellwether vehicle in North America, so we take great pride in getting it right and continually improving,” said John Martin, senior vice president, Manufacturing, Supply Chain Management and Purchasing, Nissan North America. “All of our North American teams are aware of how important the mid-size sedan segment is to this region, and having five straight years of continuous sales growth in such an intensely competitive segment has become a point of pride for us.”

The first Altima launched in Smyrna in 1992, and the popular mid-size sedan has been built there ever since. Brisk sales by 2004 prompted Nissan to expand production to Smyrna’s sister plant in Canton, Mississippi. To date, over 5.5 million Altimas have rolled off the two U.S. plants’ production lines. Canton will launch production of the 2016 Altima in one week.

Just three years after its total redesign for the 2013 model year, the Nissan Altima has been transformed again in one of the most extensive mid-cycle product makeovers in Nissan history. Updates include a refreshed exterior following the new Nissan “Energetic Flow” design language introduced initially with the MY15 Murano and followed by the all-new Maxima. Design is highlighted by a redesigned front and rear fascia, grille, headlamps, lower and wider taillights, new 17-inch and 18-inch machine-finished aluminum-alloy wheel designs, refined interior design, class-leading* standard fuel economy of 39 miles per gallon highway (2.5-liter engine, except 2.5 SR), addition of a new, sportier Altima SR grade and much more.

Nissan Safety Shield technologies available on the 2016 Altima include Forward Emergency Braking, Intelligent Cruise Control, Blind Spot Warning with Rear Cross Traffic Alert, and class exclusive available Predictive Forward Collision Warning.

In 2014 the Smyrna plant became the highest-producing automotive assembly plant in North America, with more than 648,000 vehicles assembled. The operation employs more than 8,400 people and produces the all-electric Nissan LEAF, Pathfinder, Maxima and Infiniti QX60 in addition to the Rogue and Altima.

“I was here when the very first Altima came off the line, and we knew Altima was going to play an important role in Nissan’s future in this region,” said Nissan Smyrna’s vice president of manufacturing Randy Knight. “I don’t know if any of us who were here back then had any idea just how successful or how important Altima would become. It just keeps getting better, and it is a credit to the talents of our North American teams in Engineering, Design and Manufacturing that it continues to appeal to car buyers in North America.”

The new 2016 Altima will go on sale at U.S. Nissan dealerships in November.

NISSAN CHAIRMAN AND CEO CARLOS GHOSN REVEALS NEW 2016 ALTIMA IN NEW YORK CITY

NEW YORK – Nissan chairman and CEO Carlos Ghosn today previewed the new 2016 Nissan Altima during a series of business media appearances in New York City.

“Altima has experienced five consecutive years of sales growth, the only vehicle in the mid-size sedan segment to do so, with sales growing more than 60 percent since the start of the economic recovery in 2009,” said Ghosn. “With this new, redesigned 2016 Altima, we expect to be more competitive in the marketplace.”

Nissan performance in the United States is on a record pace in 2015, with sales passing the one million mark earlier than any time in company history. Nissan Group sales are up 4.2 percent through August. The growth has been fueled in part by a 37 percent increase in Nissan Rogue sales and a 30 percent increase in sales of the all-new Nissan Murano.

Altima, Nissan’s best-selling vehicle in North America, has been redesigned for the 2016 model year, including new exterior and interior styling, enhanced technology and connectivity, a new Altima SR sports model and new safety features such as segment-exclusive* Predictive Forward Collision Warning (PFCW). In addition, highway fuel economy has been increased to a best-in-class** 39 miles-per-gallon for Altima 2.5-liter engine models (except 2.5 SR).
